Emilia Clarke Kept *That* Big 'Game Of Thrones' Twist Secret For Two Years

"Game Of Thrones" Season 8 NY Premiere

There's no denying that the most recent episode of Game of Thrones was a decisive one. Fans were so upset with that major plot twist (you know the one with Daenerys and the dragon and the fire) that they launched a petition for HBO to remake the final season. Over 800,000 people have signed to date. Now, Emilia Clarke is speaking out about what it was like to keep that secret from fans for two whole years.

“People have always come up to me and told me how much they love Daenerys. And two years ago I got the script for this series and knew what was going to happen to her…,” Emilia revealed. “Every time someone would come up to me and say, ‘I love her!’ inside, I was thinking, ‘Well you’re not going to love her for long!’”

“It was so hard to keep it a secret. I would just nod and smile, and that’s why I had this sort of furrowed-eyebrow expression a lot of the time,” she continued. “My eyebrows would sort of curl up.”

Clarke has tried to remain positive about Daenerys new role as the "Mad Queen" on Game of Thrones. She even shared a hilarious photo to her Instagram after the controversial episode aired. "This is what it took not only to shoot ep5...but to watch it too!" she captioned the photo.
