Kate Middleton Took Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Royal Fam Exit 'Badly'

Commonwealth Day Service 2020

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step down from their positions within the Royal Family has reportedly deeply impacted Kate Middleton. The Duchess of Cambridge barely acknowledged her in-laws when she arrived at Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth Day Service on Monday (March 9), which was her first public reunion with Harry and Meghan since they announced their plans to move to Canada.

Vanity Fair's royal correspondent Katie Nicholl shed some light on Kate's state of mind amidst all the "Megxit" drama. "Possibly she was tired but she didn’t look overjoyed," Nicholl said of the Duchess' chilly greeting. "To be honest I think Kate has taken it all badly. She, Harry and William were once such a happy trio, she thinks what has happened is all very sad.”

Another source spoke with Us Weekly about how Harry and Meghan are feeling about their current estrangement from Kate and William. "Harry misses his brother and Kate, but there’s too much mud under the bridge at this point for any meaningful communication. They’re cordial, but that’s about as far as it goes," the source explained.

According to the source, Meghan isn’t as fazed as Harry because she’s dealt with estrangement from toxic family members before. Instead of getting caught up in all the drama, Harry and Meghan are focusing on their son. “These early days with Archie are so precious,” the insider told Us Weekly. “They’re really happy to be raising him outside of the public eye, for now at least.”

Royal reporter Omid Scobie, who shadowed Harry and Meghan during their final royal engagements over the past few days, wrote for Bazaar.com that the Sussexes' under the "terrain may be a little different but their priorities are exactly the same as before...keeping the family, most importantly Archie, safe is what will make all of this worth it.”
