Kate Middleton made a rare comment about her cancer journey while speaking on the unexpected challenges she was met with throughout the past year.

The Princess of Wales recently attended the annual carol service at Westminster Abbey with her husband, Prince William, and their three children ā€” Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis ā€” where she spoke to English pop star Paloma Faith about how she was unprepared for how her 2024 went, per Page Six. The outlet notes that Middleton's appearance at the service is her first major outing since returning to royal duties last week after taking a months-long break to focus on her health.

Middleton, 42, announced in March that an abdominal surgery she had at the start of the year "found cancer had been present," leading her to begin treatment. She announced in September that she had completed chemotherapy and planned to make her return to public life.

"I didn't know this year was going to be the year that I've just had," she said.

When Faith described it the year as full of "the unplanned," Middleton agreed, adding that many others also faced unexpected battles throughout the year. "But I think lots of people this year have had such challenging times."

One such person is another member of the royal family, as King Charles III was also diagnosed with and receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.
