Fat Joe declared Ja Rule and Ashanti are the greatest rapper/singer duo of all time, but he also said two other artists might claim the coveted title.
The Volume and Roc Nation released the latest episode of Fat Joe and Jadakiss' new podcast Joe & Jada on Tuesday, May 20. During their conversation, both rappers spoke about the success of Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "luther." Jada asked Joe if the "30 For 30" artists could eventually take Ja and Ashanti's place. The Terror Squad leader agreed they could take their spot, but only if their bond remains unbreakable.
“What you gotta understand is we don’t know if they going to still be best friends and all that forever," Joe explained. "Right now, they got about six or seven songs. They all number one. Yes, they could take the spot, 1,000,000%... They are fire together. I’m just saying if it ever gets rocky… [If not] then they’re going to take the slot."
“They’re on their way," Joe continued. "They call Ja and Ashanti the greatest duo of all time, I’m just saying SZA and Kendrick are solo artists.”
Kendrick Lamar and SZA's friendship is nowhere near over yet, especially after they made history together. Their song "luther" has spent 13 weeks at the top of Billboard's Hot 100 chart. It recently became the biggest Hip-Hop song of the decade after it surpassed the success of Roddy Ricch's "The Box," which spent 11 consecutive weeks at No. 1.
Their "Grand National Tour" also helped Lamar make history as the first rapper to make over $14 million from a single concert. The record was broken after Kendrick and SZA's stop at Lumen Field in Seattle on May 17, which grossed $14.8 million in one night.
