The body of Celeste Rivas, which was found in singer d4vd's car in September, was reportedly so frozen that the medical examiner might not be able to establish a time of death.
According to a report TMZ published on Saturday, November 22, the Los Angeles Medical Examiner received the pieces of Rivas' body when they were "partially frozen" and had been thawing for several weeks before they were discovered in the front trunk of d4vd's Tesla. Her head was decapitated, and the limbs were removed from the torso. The body was in such bad shape that police couldn't tell the gender when they found it.
"It will most likely be 'undetermined,'" a source told the outlet.
When the body arrived, the medical examiner initially said Rivas was a victim of an "apparent homicide," but now the office is having difficulty ruling an official cause of death. Nonetheless, the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery Homicide Division is considering the case a homicide and can make arrests even if a cause of death is not determined.
Police are reportedly looking at d4vd and an alleged accomplice as suspects. Authorities believe the second person may have helped d4vd dismember the body and store the parts in a large freezer. The LAPD has locked in on an alleged late-night car trip d4vd took in Spring 2025 to a remote location in Santa Barbara County. Data from the Tesla reportedly show that Rivas' body may have been in the vehicle at the time, along with another passenger.
If Rivas' body was inside the vehicle at the time of the trip, then authorities believe the parts were stored in a large freezer until they were loaded back into the vehicle before it was abandoned. TMZ reports that the home d4vd rented has a freezer large enough to store Rivas' body parts, but it's not clear if police thoroughly investigated it during their search of the home last month.
D4vd's rep had said that the singer is cooperating with police, but that's reportedly no longer the case. A police source told People that d4vd is not cooperating, and hasn't been since the investigation began. D4vd, born David Anthony Burke, has yet to speak on the situation.
